Discover SWANhub, the South-West Allstar Network

Welcome to SWANhub, for all things related to Amateur Radio analogue repeater linking in South West England.
If you have an Allstarlink node and wish to connect, please connect port 1of the bub, node number
40658
Please note that in order to maintain the stability of the hub server, it will be restarted at 04:00 every day.
This will disconnect all nodes, unless you establish a permanent connection by using *813, instead of *3 to connect.
Stay informed about the latest updates by checking back here regularly.
This page is a work in progress and some elements may not be complete or fully functional!
Tips when using the SWAN hub:
The stations connected to the hub are a mix of repeaters and simplex gateways. Idents usually occur every 15 minutes, and there are usually courtesy tones on repeaters.
These will not be audible across the links, so you may not hear them on the node you're connected to!
Leave a 3-second gap before replying!
I hear far too many stations saying that the reason for the 3 second gap between overs is due to latency across the internet, this is RUBBISH! Latency between repeaters and other nodes is in the order of 30-40mS!
The reason for the 3 second gap is to allow:
-
Users to break in between overs - courtesy.
-
Node controllers to enter DTMF commands.
-
Simplex node courtesy tone and hang timer to expire and node radio to switch back to RX - this is the main reason for the gap!
So, PLEASE leave a 3 second pause after every transmission, to allow any courtesy tones to play, and any stations wishing to break-in a usable gap!
Similarly, when working within a group of stations, please be very clear about who is taking the next turn to transmit, explicitly pass the transmission by stating the callsign and saying " to take it" or similar, and then say "from" (your own callsign).
This way, it will stop continual "doubling" of stations who thought it was their turn!!
Finally and most importantly, in the case of any intentional jamming of other abuse of the system, it is essential that you totally IGNORE the abuse and do not acknowledge it in any way, even cryptic comments! This is because the abuser wants to disrupt your conversation and letting them know that they have, is exactly what they want! We have control operators who monitor the system 24x7 and can disable parts of the system to stop any problems.
Thank you for your help in keeping the system running smoothly and we hope you enjoy using the system!
